"Djinn Game" Story

While filming on a Sunday, Mr. Deville and Eduardo the Genie get into an argument causing Eduardo to kidnap Jessica and hide in his lamp. Rick and CB Maroon are called in to try and negotiate with Eduardo. Eduardo complains that "side-toons" like him never get any of the attention that a star, like Roger, gets and he demands more appreciation.

Inside the lamp, Jessica finds a note addressed to Eduardo, instructing him to wait "an hour" before giving the "signal". Jessica finds a bomb and blows it up, releasing both herself and Eduardo from the lamp. A number of Toon-Extras take the bomb explosion as the signal and begin a rebellion on the studio.

Roger, Rick, Jessica and CB take shelter in Maroon's office. They get cornered by a Toon Octopus. Roger strangely has the Octopus chase him around the room. Finally, Rick understands what Roger is doing and tells everyone to laugh and applaud. The Rogue Toons are satisfied with the appreciation and stop their attack.

CB argues that they can't use all of the Toons, in cartoons, all the time but Rick suggests having the Rogue Toons entertain at the Children's Hospital.

Trivia

  • While the title "Dial M for Roger" is a nod off to Alfred Hitchcock's "Dial M for Murder", the plot of the story is inspired off of the true events of the Orson Wells radio drama of "War of the Worlds" from 1938.
